Planning for your kitchen renovations is getting underway and it’s time to make some important decisions. For starters, consider the era and overall theme of your home. The original architecture and general style of a house can play a strong role in determining structural and design changes being made to its individual rooms. For a home built in the 1920s to 1950s, for example, a more traditional kitchen style may seem the most suitable, with architecture from the 1960s and beyond supporting a more modern take.

Modern kitchen designs often lean towards a largely monochromatic, fuss-free approach to materials and décor. High-tech, stainless steel appliances are usually a staple ingredient, evoking a more futuristic departure from the customary.
Truly modern kitchens boost the sleek sophistication quotient in their countertops (such as custom concrete) and melamine cabinets, for example, and furniture follows suit. Accents and other decorative items can be used to add splashes of color and extra interest.
Kitchen Designs with Traditional Appeal
The beauty of more traditional kitchens designs is that they never really go out of style. 
The welcoming warmth of a classic country kitchen can’t be beat for relaxed family meals and casual gatherings, inviting conversation with the cook in cozy surroundings.
Most traditional style kitchen designs tend to feature more wood than gleaming metal, enhanced by simple and sturdy farmhouse style tables and chairs. Think rustic chopping blocks, bright fabric curtains, baskets, copper ornaments and a funky, retro wall clock for added fun.

Both modern and traditional kitchen designs can be beautiful and functional. It really comes down to choosing the characteristic elements that best fit the lifestyle of you and your family. Modern doesn’t necessarily have to be cold, and traditional doesn’t need to scream outdated kitsch. Listen to your gut feeling; when it comes to the look and feel of your kitchen design, let your personality and personal taste be your best guide.
